The Joy Bus Meal Delivery Program

The Joy Bus is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving quality of life for homebound cancer patients by eradicating patient malnutrition and improving mental health factors. We do this by delivering a fresh, medically-tailored meal, social support, and essential nutrition education each week at NO COST to our clients.

Our organization was founded in 2011 by Jennifer Caraway after her good friend Joy was
diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. Joy’s drive and determination in the face of suffering and even death continues to inspire us and teach us the soul-healing powers of a hot, delicious meal and a compassionate, smiling face.

The Joy Bus Meal Delivery Program is an entirely unparalleled program in the Phoenix area. Our meals are delivered each week by a compassionate volunteer in eco-friendly, chemical-free packaging. We are fortunate to have the support of local farms, such as Crooked Sky Farms, that provide fresh, organic, non-GMO produce for the preparation of our client’s meals. Tucked into each paper bag that has been decorated by a community member is an informational sheet on the nutritional power of the ingredients used and how this will support their fight against cancer. To date, The Joy Bus Meal Delivery Program has provided over 6,000 meals to those fighting cancer in our community. The nutritional and psychological outcomes of this program are significant, ultimately improving clients’ quality of life in the face of a devastating disease.

Please join us in welcoming the wonderful Amanda Henley to The Joy Bus Board of Directors! She will be joining us as Board Secretary and we are already very thankful for her supreme organizational skills.

Amanda has always had a passion for all things food-related – cooking and most certainly eating. A little over a year ago, Amanda came across an ad on Facebook looking for Events Committee volunteers in support of The Joy Bus. She instantly fell in love with our mission of providing fresh, chef-inspired meals and companionship to homebound cancer patients. What a great opportunity to share her love of food with people who need that nutrition and comfort the most! Beyond joining the Events Committee, Amanda also started serving at The Joy Bus Diner on the weekends. She is humbled by the generosity of The Joy Bus supporters and is honored to be serving her community beside them.

An Illinois native, Amanda has lived in the valley for 17 nice and warm years. She is a proud resident of The Joy Bus “Sheaborhood” where she lives with her husband, Darren, and dog child, Hank. When not looking for event and fundraising opportunities for The Joy Bus, Amanda works full time as a Business Systems Consultant for Wells Fargo Bank. In her spare time she loves to troll Pinterest looking for new recipes and scout out new places to eat around town. You’ll also find her almost every day sweating at the gym, where she occasionally teaches group fitness classes.
