The Joy Bus is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving quality of life for homebound cancer patients by eradicating patient malnutrition and improving mental health factors. We do this by delivering a fresh, medically-tailored meal, social support, and essential nutrition education each week at NO COST to our clients.
Our organization was founded in 2011 by Jennifer Caraway after her good friend Joy was
diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. Joy’s drive and determination in the face of suffering and even death continues to inspire us and teach us the soul-healing powers of a hot, delicious meal and a compassionate, smiling face.
The Joy Bus Meal Delivery Program is an entirely unparalleled program in the Phoenix area. Our meals are delivered each week by a compassionate volunteer in eco-friendly, chemical-free packaging. We are fortunate to have the support of local farms, such as Crooked Sky Farms, that provide fresh, organic, non-GMO produce for the preparation of our client’s meals. Tucked into each paper bag that has been decorated by a community member is an informational sheet on the nutritional power of the ingredients used and how this will support their fight against cancer. To date, The Joy Bus Meal Delivery Program has provided over 6,000 meals to those fighting cancer in our community. The nutritional and psychological outcomes of this program are significant, ultimately improving clients’ quality of life in the face of a devastating disease.
