Volunteer of the Month – Dora Cagnetto

“I have had the privilege of volunteering for TJB for 6 1/2 years. I have had the opportunity to experience many aspects of the organization including volunteering at events, prepping in the kitchen, and picking up produce at the farm. But, by far, the most humbling and rewarding experience has been the opportunity to deliver meals every week to some of the most gracious and wonderful people in our community. The people we deliver to are so appreciative of the delicious meals we deliver in the beautiful hand-decorated bags as they face their challenges. I have been fortunate enough to meet some of the bravest and most incredible people, many of whom I now call friends. It is definitely “More than a Meal” and this why I am passionate about serving as a volunteer for TJB.” – Dora

20,000 Meals

Mark September 28th a day to remember as #TheJoyBusDay!

On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, we were so fortunate to have Mayor Kate Gallego join us in delivering our 20,000th meal as an organization.
Mayor Gallego delivered this momentous meal alongside The Joy Bus Founder and Executive Director, Jennifer Caraway, at the home of our beloved clients, Kim and Kathy. And to top of this beautiful moment, Mayor Gallego then joined us at The Joy Bus Diner to officially proclaim September 28th as The Joy Bus Day, stating:
“The entire city wants to say thank you to The Joy Bus. You have stepped up to help patients fight cancer, even during COVID. Today is The Joy Bus Day in the City of Phoenix.”

All of us at The Joy Bus want to give our sincere thanks to Mayor Kate Gallego and her team and to each and every soul who has helped us to this point. Every single gift of your time, monetary donation, community connection, social media like or share, hug, smile, or good vibe has truly meant the world to us and we could never say thank you enough. Now, we look forward to the future and the development of a new facility built to our specific needs with dramatically expanded kitchen, pantry, and dining capacity. To accomplish this, we have launched The Joy Bus More Than A Meal Capital Campaign with the support of a strong cabinet of community leaders chaired by Peter and Rebecca Ailes-Fine and Derrick and Amy Hall. You can find out more about this project on our website or make your gift today on our Capital Campaign Giving Page.
And we hope that you will be able to join us for a Life Achievement Celebration honoring Peter Fine, President of Banner Health as we raise much needed funds for our Capital Campaign. It will be a beautiful night at the Wrigley Mansion with a cocktail reception, tasting stations, beautiful live music, excellent company and a live auction! More information and tickets are available here
Thank you so much for your support!

Volunteer of the Month – Tina Vogel

“As a 19 year cancer survivor I feel it is important to me to give back to the community. The Joy Bus feels like a perfect fit for me. I enjoy meeting and chatting with the men and women that I have been delivering to. Some of women ask me when they see my breast cancer pin how long I’ve been in remission and how they hope for that themselves. It’s such a joy to talk to them!” – Tina

Volunteer of the Month – Tara South

“Helping others is one of my biggest passions.  I love the mission of JoyBus, and look forward to the weekly deliveries of fresh and nutritious meals to our homebound cancer patients.  Seeing their smiles and hearing their stories always brighten my day.  I’m grateful to have found and support such a wonderful organization!” – Tara

The Joy Bus Collaboration with University of Arizona College of Medicine

We are excited to announce a new collaboration between The Joy Bus and the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix! With this collaboration, 1st and 2nd year medical students will be delivering meals as part of The Joy Bus experience. During these home visits, we will be incorporating some additional components to continue the #morethanamealexperience! Students will spend time with each client to learn more about their experiences as a person who is overcoming cancer and also share useful health information about nutrition and wellness including an educational/interactive placemat to help in the personal health journey. This will include creative placemats that will provide some interactive exercises and information for the client to keep after the visit. With this collaboration, we are hoping to expand the resources available to The Joy Bus participants and help train medical students to improve their ability to care for patients with cancer as future doctors. We are completely honored to collaborate with @uazmedphx Thank you @drshad9 for making this vision a reality!
